Accessibility

The information should work beyond the map

Interactive maps are useful, but they cannot be the only way to reach a record. Every mapped facility also appears in a keyboard-accessible text list.

Accessibility statement · 15 Jul 2026

Features in this release

  • Skip-friendly landmarks, labelled navigation and visible keyboard focus.
  • A facility directory that duplicates map information in text.
  • Filter buttons with pressed state and live result counts.
  • Keyboard and Escape support for the image lightbox, with focus restoration.
  • Form labels, required-field indicators, text error messages and large touch targets.
  • Charts accompanied by exact counts and drilldown records.
  • Reduced-motion support when the operating system requests it.

Known limitations

OpenStreetMap tiles contain visual geography that is not fully conveyed by alt text, so the accompanying list is the authoritative accessible alternative. Some external source PDFs and websites may not meet the same standard. The prototype has not yet completed an independent WCAG audit.

Report a barrier

Use the private report form, choose the most relevant category, and describe the page, assistive technology and task that was blocked. Do not include unnecessary medical or identity details.
